Description:
The University works in partnership with local schools for initial teacher education through an associate tutor system (teachers in school who act as mentors during school placements).

The course consists of two main elements which follow the same thematic progression. The educational studies component focuses on generic issues relating to secondary education, and the professional studies component focuses on subject application in the chosen specialist curriculum area. Two thirds of the course is spent on school-based training, which includes serial and block practice.


Assessment may include: Coursework.

Entry requirements:
A first degree or equivalent, in Physics, together with GCSE or GCE 'O' Level passes at Grade C in English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent.

Media and methods employed: Printed text, tutorial support, audio cassettes, residential schools, video cassettes.

Administrative information:
On successful completion of this two year programme students will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Education - Physics.
